Real Flo by Moen installation experience
T-MAX has installed a Flo by Moen smart shutoff on a 1-1/4-inch water line. That practical experience informs our planning for space, connections and service access. We can discuss Flo by Moen or another compatible system based on your piping and monitoring needs.
The water-line size and the device’s nominal size are not always the same. We verify the selected model and connection requirements for each installation.
Whole-house monitoring and automatic shutoff
An in-line smart monitor watches water use through the home’s supply line. Depending on the system and settings, it can alert you to unusual use and automatically close the valve when a potential leak event meets its shutoff criteria.
Flo by Moen also supports app-based monitoring and remote valve control. An alert does not identify the exact location of a hidden leak. If investigation is needed, our plumbing leak detection service addresses finding the source. No system can prevent every type of water damage.
Installation on the main water line
We check the entry point, manual shutoff, pressure regulator, branch piping and available service space. For Flo, placement is after the main shutoff and PRV where present, before the branches serving the protected fixtures, in accordance with its instructions. Fire-sprinkler or suppression lines must not be routed through the device.
Connections, power access and environmental protection are planned for the selected product and location. If incoming pressure needs attention, PRV diagnosis and replacement is a separate service that we can coordinate with the installation.
3/4-inch, 1-inch, 1-1/4-inch and 1-1/2-inch water lines
We assess common main-line sizes including 3/4 inch, 1 inch, 1-1/4 inch and 1-1/2 inch. Selection depends on the manufacturer’s sizing guidance, required flow and connection arrangement—not simply choosing a reducer that fits.
Send a clear photo of your main shutoff and any visible size markings. We confirm the actual pipe size and compatible equipment on site before ordering.
App, Wi-Fi and system testing
For Flo by Moen, we check access to power and a suitable 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection at the installation point. Setup includes pairing with your account in the manufacturer’s app, reviewing alerts and explaining the initial learning period. Other brands may have different requirements.
We check the new plumbing joints, verify valve operation and test the available monitoring and app controls with you. We also explain manual operation and where to find the product’s instructions for connection or power interruptions.

Tell us your project location, pipe size if known and whether you already own a device. Photos of the main line and nearby power access help us plan the visit. T-MAX is a California C-36 plumbing contractor, CSLB #1110370; the final scope is based on the actual site and selected equipment.
Frequently asked questions
Do you only install Flo by Moen?
Flo by Moen is a system we have installed. We can also evaluate other compatible automatic shutoff systems; installation and setup depend on the selected product.
Can you install a smart shutoff on a 1-1/4-inch line?
Yes, T-MAX has completed a Flo by Moen installation on a 1-1/4-inch water line. We verify device sizing, flow requirements and connections for each property rather than assuming a device has the same nominal size as the pipe.
Does the device replace my pressure regulator?
No. A pressure regulator controls water pressure; a smart shutoff monitors water use and can close the supply. We assess each function separately.
Can Flo tell me exactly where a hidden leak is?
No. It can report unusual use and potential leaks but does not pinpoint the location of a hidden leak. A plumbing investigation may still be needed.
Do I need Wi-Fi at the installation location?
Flo uses a suitable 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection for connected features. We check coverage and power access as part of planning and review the selected product’s requirements with you.
